MR. TIM MENG INVITED TO SERVE AS A JUDGE FOR “FDI MOOT SHENZHEN 2021”
On August 15, 2021, FDI Moot Shenzhen 2021 reached its ultimate climax. After several rounds of intense competition, the team from China-EU School of Law at China University of Political Science and Law emerged victorious, winning the championship of FDI Moot Shenzhen 2021 with an impressive performance. The team from the University of International Business and Economics secured the runner-up position, while teams from Beijing Normal University and China University of Political Science and Law shared third place. Mr. Tim Meng, the managing partner of GoldenGate Lawyers, was invited to serve as a judge for this FDI Moot Shenzhen 2021 event.
The FDI Moot (Foreign Direct Investment Moot) is one of the “Top Three Global Mock Trail Competitions”, alongside the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot and the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. The competition is divided into global and regional/national rounds, with all teams using the same set of problems. Teams must qualify through regional/national competitions to advance to the global rounds.
FDI Moot Shenzhen is the qualifying event for the China region of the FDI Moot, which is organized by the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA). Its aim is to inspire young students’ enthusiasm for the field of investment arbitration through international mock arbitration proceedings, and to cultivate a pool of high-quality foreign-related legal talents who are proficient in international rules and have a global vision and international perspective.
As China’s activities in the international investment arena become increasingly frequent, there is a growing need for legal talents capable of handling international investment disputes. This arbitration simulation competition provides an opportunity for law students to gain understanding and conduct research on international investment arbitration, and offers an excellent platform contributing to the development of talents in this field in China.
